When People Don’t Pay Enough, They Don’t Pay Enough Attention

A few years ago, I attended an in-person event. During this event, an offer was made to join a Mastermind.

The investment was $10,000, and my group of newfound friends—who were just as new to this space as I was—agreed that paying that kind of money seemed ridiculous.

After all, we could just start our own mastermind for free.

So that’s exactly what we did. We were so sure of ourselves, so convinced that we could recreate the same experience without the hefty price tag. We even made a deal to come back to the next event and brag about how smart we were to save all that money.

Fast forward a few months… and things didn’t go as planned. People started missing meetings. The few who did show up couldn’t stay for more than an hour. Before we knew it, our mastermind had completely fizzled out. No accountability. No consistency. No results.

Sadly, this pattern isn’t uncommon. In fact, I recently saw the same thing happen to one of my paid masterminds. Though not fully dissolved, there’s a clear difference between those who are fully invested and those who aren’t.

And this is exactly what I’ve experienced time and time again. Those who pay less tend to demand more and those who don't pay, never pay attention. They overanalyze, stress over the investment, and expect miracles overnight. Meanwhile, high-paying clients trust the process, commit fully, and get the best results.

Why High End Paid Masterminds Work

1. Commitment: When you invest financially, you’re more likely to show up and do the work.

2. Accountability: Everyone in the group has skin in the game, making them more engaged and reliable.

3. Transformation: The value isn’t just in the content—it’s in the action taken. A high-ticket mastermind isn’t just about information; it’s about implementation.

4. Environment: Surrounding yourself with others who have also invested creates a culture of excellence. When everyone is committed, the energy is different.

Lesson Learned

The truth is, we didn’t fail at our free mastermind because we weren’t smart or capable. We failed because we didn’t take it seriously. And that’s the danger of “free.” Free doesn’t require sacrifice, and without sacrifice, there’s no real transformation.

So the next time you hesitate to invest in yourself because “I can do this on my own,” ask yourself—have you actually done it? If the answer is no, maybe it’s time to put some money where your goals are.
